What is Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles?

This is an action RPG based on the “Demon Slayer” (Kimetsu no Yaiba) serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump.

The story is about a boy fighting evil demons in a fictional setting modeled on the Taisho Period (1912-1926) in Japan.

The game contains the contents of the original manga from the “Risshi Arc (Episode 1)” to the “Infinity Train Arc”.

“The Hinokami Chronicles” is designed to be enjoyable even for those who have not read the original manga.

More on this later!

The original manga(comics) has already been completed.

If you are curious about what Demon Slayer is about, you can start with the manga version.

This manga is in 23 volumes, so you’ll be able to finish it in no time.

By the way, “The Hinokami Chronicles” is already available on PS4, PS5, Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

If you already own these hardware, you may want to play with the corresponding software.

From here, I will write about my impressions of the actual play of “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles”.

Beautiful graphics!

  • Background
  • Combat Descriptions
  • Story Animation

All three of these elements are beautiful.

The game backgrounds are based on an animation produced by ufotable, which gives the game a realistic feel.

ufotable also created the animation for “Fate/staynight Heaven’s Feel”.

It features beautiful backgrounds and stunning battle depictions.

The Nintendo Switch has a reputation for choppy movement in some action games.

However, from the author’s experience, there was no discomfort in character movement in “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles”.

Experience the world of Demon Slayer!

  • If you want to advance the story faster, keep going through the “Main Story”!
  • With “Pieces of thoughts”, you’ll have the pleasure of releasing sub-stories!

The good thing about “Demon Slayer: Hinokami Chronicles” is that it has a story design that is friendly to both newcomers and those who have already finished reading the original story.

For those who are new to “Demon Slayer,” it is recommended to enjoy both the main story and the sub-stories.

The sub-stories are released by obtaining “pieces of thoughts” and talking to the characters.

I thought “pieces of thoughts” would be difficult to collect?

I don’t want to make the search a hassle…

In this game, the map can be checked at any time during the search.

The locations of items are indicated on the map, so if you proceed with your search while looking at the map, you will not miss anything.

Designed to be easy for action game beginners

  • Separate “exploration part” and “battle part”.
  • The game does not cause screen-sickness.

The clear separation of exploration and combat makes the game enjoyable even for action game beginners.

I don’t want to do it while being scared that the enemy will attack at any moment….

It is safe even for such people.

Another good point, which is only my experience, is that action game do not cause screen-sickness easily.

I get screen-sick easily when playing action games, so I can only play action games for a short time at a time.

I think that “Hinokami Chronicles” is less prone to screen-sickness because the camera work is stable.

Disadvantages: Is Hinokami Chronicles considered to be boring?

Here are some of the bad points of the Hinokami Chronicles.

Not suitable for advanced action game players.

Demon Slayer: Hinokami Chronicles” is just the right level of difficulty for beginners and those who are not very good at action games.

If you work a little harder, you can aim for an A or S rating.

Even if you don’t have good defense, you don’t suffer much damage.

On the other hand, I believe that the game may not be very challenging if played by people who are used to playing action games.

If you are looking for a more challenging action game, I recommend you to enjoy communication battles with other players in the “Versus Mode”.

(Online functionality must be turned on.)

  • This is an action game with beautiful graphics!
  • This is a fun action game, even for action game beginners!
  • This is a must have for anyone who loves the characters and the world!!!

These are my impressions of “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles”.

As I am not good at action games, I was worried that I would not be able to control the game properly before I started.

However, when I actually played the game, I was pleasantly surprised to find that I was able to progress smoothly.

On the other hand, those who are used to playing action games may find it lacking.

  • I want to delve deeper into the characters and worldview
  • I’m new to action games or not very good at them, but I want to have fun!

f you fall into either of these categories, I am sure you will enjoy “Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles”.

If you want to enjoy it in manga(comics) form, here you go.
